One down, Three to Edit, And a New Project To Come…
After a overly lazy day yesterday… and most of the days before that as well… but yesterday in particular because I had planned to not be lazy.
Blah Blah Blah
Anyway, Yesterday I finished my latest short story. That’s 3 finished in as many weeks!. Okay, one took months to muddle through and another was a complete rewrite, but the last one was a completely new story…
I’m feeling pretty pleased with myself right now.
But now -
I need to edit those three stories. One of them (the one I muddled through over a few months…) needs a bit of a restructuring, just to give it a bit more… something.
Also, I came up with a new idea for a novel. So far I just have the aura of an idea and a title, but it’s good. So I’m going to put a bit of effort into that one.
If only I could write them as fast. Maybe I could finish a novel by the end of the week. 40,000 words today, another 40,000 tomorrow. What do you think? can I do it.
NO
Duh…
But maybe I’ll get a start on it today… after reworking and editing the short stories… and after Xena’s over…
Bam!

P.S. If the world has been destroyed by the time you read this, assume I took the day off.
Can’t Blog, Clowns’ll eat me.
SIX DAYS UNTIL HOLIDAYS!
Jealous?
Don’t be too jealous, I have a lot to do during those two weeks.
The last few days I haven’t gotten anything done at all. I’ve either been at work or tired or blocked. The next Doug update is on it’s way… slowly. I’m attempting to come up with a little other-world mythology, Maybe I’ll base it on religion, Jesus was a vampire, maybe? I don’t know.
I’m still blocked on Project Surreal. I’m thinking of putting it on the back burners for a while, It’s already been six months since I wrote the first chapter though. I think I just need some new ideas for it.
There will be a new project to take it’s place. I shall name thee – Project Mansion… which is a bit of a clue as to what it’s about. It’s another idea that I abandoned a while back but have come up with a new spin to it. I’m not sure about the particulars but it will basically be a detective story where an out-of-place and down-on-his-luck private eye finds himself at a party for rich eccentrics when suddenly the host is murdered. Who killed him? who had the most to gain? Was it the son who is in debt to certain shady figures or the host’s nurse who was caught stealing from him or was it someone who had a bigger secret to keep? The protagonist will have to use his preternatural talents to solve the case before he too becomes the target.
Sound cool? I hope so. There’s also a really sweet twist at the end – Jesus is a vampire.
I’m keeping Project Apocalypse on the front burners still, even though the heat is on low. I’ve been writing it in my head for so long that the words on the screen just don’t cut it. A tip for any writers out there – don’t plan a novel for any extended period of time, in fact don’t plan it at all. Write the first draft and THEN do the planning.
Anyway, that’s all the time I’m wasting today… wink wink. I’m heading off to do some writing on Project Mansion to get it started. That’s writing, not planning. And I’ll try and do a bit on that Doug update and the short story I’m working on at the moment.
Do you think I try to do too many things at once?
Shuuuun!
A few years ago while in a particularly silly mood I came up with the name Bruce the Magical Unicorn. I always wanted to do something with it – write a ridiculous short story or something…
Until now. Someone has done something much better with a loosely similar idea in mind. (similar because they both have unicorn in the name)
This is Charlie the Unicorn.

Bet you’re feeling lucky? Aren’t you biatch?
and there was no one around to tell.
at two o’clock in the morning
no one.
can you believe it?
okay, so you – my imaginary readers -have the privilege of being the first to hear the story of how my masterpiece (no, that’s a little too conceited; Let’s just call it ‘genius work of art’) came into being. – and it is a story of delight and wonder. and a pixie named steve.
So I’ve spent the day avoiding doing anything (well it is the start of my holidays – at least that’s how I reasoned it to steve). and I pretty well succeeded. but little did I know that all this had been building up for days. now let’s start from the beginning – - -
I guess the very beginning would have to be when I first started writing an opening scene for a story I wanted to write – set in a city underground. Now this first scene was pretty gruesome – It began in a small train station about 15 levels underground, the station was deserted. An echo broke the silence and the elevator doors slid open with a loud sigh. The man inside fell forward, his hand catching the elevator door. He held himself there for a moment before stumbling out into the station. Blood began to pour from every orifice in his head until finally – he keeled over and died in a bloody mess.
and I finished the scene with the single line “In one hour the morning train would arrive with over eight hundred passengers.”
Well, I thought it was pretty cool. Except that I was never sure where to go with it.
The next part of this story takes place less than a week ago while I was “researching” on the web (Really I was just looking at whatever popped onto my screen) – I came across stupid celebrity baby names. You know the lists – Gwyneth Paltrow named her kid Apple, Tom Cruise name his kid sewerage. Penn Teller named his kid Moxie Crimefighter.
I saw that and I thought “My, What an unusual name is Moxie”
The next part of this story takes place this morning… wait it’s two in the morning. So it was yesterday morning. This part is quite a short story – I was watching a bit of T.v. and someone said the word Moxie. and I thought “My, What an unusual name is Moxie – I want to use it for a character name”
The third part of my story (wait. I think we’re up to fourth now) is what got me so excited as to write this down.
I was playing Final Fantasy 12 – and a location in this game is a sort of underground city, or at least a village beneath a city – and it is called Lowtown.
And I thought “May, What a good name is Lowtown – I might use it”
and so I wrote it down on my notepad (scrawl-pad) just above something I had written earlier. I looked again at my notepad (scrawl-pad) and I saw the words “Lowtown Moxie”
And I thought “Lowtown Moxie. . . LOWTOWN MOXIE!! I might be a little wired at the moment from insomnia and that joint before BUT THAT IS THE MOST BITCHENEST TITLE OF A NOVEL EVER!!!!”
It’s all coming together boys and girls, It’s all coming together.-
Can’t you feel it?
Bye steve.
