Presently, I’m taking a break and watching the classic Michael Keaton movie Multiplicity. I remember when this first came out, me and a friend of mine would constantly quote Number 4’s lines to each other. “I like pizza!”
But the other good news I have today is this -
My writer’s block, or should I say writer’s laziness, is starting to ease up and I’m actually getting stuff done. I say ‘ease’ because it’s still running slowly, dripping through in dribs and drabs. But if I can keep it up, It’ll pick up speed and I’ll be rolling like a penguin on a steep hill.
Here’s a little word count thing-a-mabob -

Well, That’s it for now, just a short update. Back to work, Steve.

I got my new glasses today…
And more excitingly - Pizza Pockets!
This is me just over a week ago, a day before I had a haircut and a shave.
And this is me a few hours ago…
Post haircut, shave and glasses purchasing -
And this is me when I heard the microwave ping meaning my Pizza Pockets were ready -
Now… back to work…

Photos, photos, photos!
It’s day four of my holidays and I’m still going strong… apart from the getting things done part.
But!! I do have a more substantial reason for my worklessness today then yesterday.
I had shit to do.
First I donned my shoes -
Then I played with a yoyo -
Then I went digging through the garbage -
… for which I have a reasonable explanation. - I’m a stalker… wait no, that’s my garbage!
I had to go and pick up a shirt that I’d ordered (damn no-having-stock-in-my-size stores!) and realised that while I was cleaning up last night, I’d thrown away the reciept. (cut to me at the store not needing the reciept anyway)
Also while at the store - I got my hair cut, I bought some pizza pockets, I bought some wine, I got my eyes checked at the optometrists (and I didn’t giggle!) , and I bought some new glasses.
Quite an exciting day!
Then I came home and had a coffee with my sister who has come up from Melbourne.

It’s true.
It’s a world where I have godlike powers. I create, I destroy, I can wrap reality around my little finger and wear it as an ostentatious pinky ring. I have absolute freedom.
And I forget.
I tie myself up in the duct tape of logic, the hand cuffs of sensibility, the noose of the real life.
Then I wind up in the tangled web of writer’s block.
I blame my job.
Then I see something. A catalyst of sorts. Something to get my chemistry set bubbling, something that makes me scream like Mel Gibson in Braveheart - “You killed Jesus you damned Je…..” um, wait, that’s not it… “Freeeeeeedom!” (that’s the one)
By the power of greyskull, I have the freedom. Why do I forget this?
The answer is easy. Penguins.
I have no one to please but myself. Screw you, My imaginary fan base. It’s all about me. If I want to write a serious character driven drama about the difficulty of father-son relationships that ends with the son calling up the power of the penguin gods to cut the legs off of all his enemys… and as punishment for calling them too often without buying the pizza pockets, the penguin gods turn his father into a polar bear which only adds to the father and son’s problematic relationship - well, I can.
It may not sell, but then anything I don’t write won’t sell either.
The hardest part of writing, I have found, is the part where you’re writing.
Now… I’m off to write with all the freedom of an anarchist hedgehog.
Peas out.

Today is Pizza Pocket day and you know what that means!
That’s right - Sunday!
Sunday is a very special day (after I finish work at 1:30pm) for two good reasons
One - Pizza Pockets! Is there any better Pocket shaped pizza flavoured lunch treat?
Two - It’s Lie Time again, where I tell myself that this is the week where everything suddenly snaps into place and I get myself on a roll. This week I’ll suddenly be hit with the inspiration stick and write my fingers to the marrow. This is the week where I keep to my routine, get more sleep and everything will start working out.
Time to roll - No Moss! No Moss!
In other news today - I remembered a character trait that I had given to one of my characters (a trait that actually moved the plot along) that I had forgotten all about. - No wonder I had trouble getting it moving again.
Also - Doug of the Darkness is going good. I have some plans for the next update so keep an eye out.
Taxic Mankeys!

February. The Beginning. Time to put the fingers to the grindstone and the eyes to the smelling salts. Time for all the lazy to move aside and make way for the productive. Time to get into a serious work routine. No more excuses, saying I’ll do it later, No more waiting for inspiration to hit.
It’s time to write, bitches!
…Or so I thought.
Day one was a bust. I couldn’t write at all. My computer froze up for half a day. So did my pen and paper. I swear that’s the reason I didn’t get anything done. That and inspiration didn’t hit me…and I’ll do it later.
Really my computer did freeze up. But I didn’t bother to fix it because I was busy reading the end of Perfume. Which is now on my list of favourite books, by the by.
Look!
Now that your sufficiently distracted…
I had work last night., Sucky, Sucky Work, and as usual a spark of inspiration hit me as I walked in the door. Several ideas came to me all at once where I could do naught about it but take down some notes.
At least they were good. I think they were anyway. I haven’t looked at them this morning.
But many questions still remain - How do you get into a good work routine? what is a good work routine? how can you stop yourself from falling out of it again? how can people stand chatting on phones? why isn’t there someone who walks around giving out free pizza door to door?
and most importantly - Can you make me a coffee? I’m trying to work here!
So here’s the plan… in convenient bullet format! yee!
In other news IT happened to me again. My super natural power of coincidences. This seems to happen to me all the time. I’ll mention something in conversation or I’ll want to see something and then with a wave of an invisible magicians wand there it is… a few weeks later.
A while ago I had a sudden hankering to see Jurassic Park again. I hadn’t seen it in years. So I went to the DVD Shop and asked about it. “it’s been discontinued,” they said “You can’t get it anywhere”. Screw you then, I thought. I bought it on VHS from ebay. cost me 20 bucks. A few weeks later I was walking by that same DVD shop and what do I see there in the front display? The Jurassic Park Trilogy Re-Released!
It happens to me a lot.
So, The reason I bring this up again, I was talking with a friend (
hiya Jo!) about Good News Week and other great old Australian shows a few weeks ago and then just a few nights ago I was watching the Colbert Report and I thought to myself - We really need some Australian News/Comedy shows, Then maybe I’d know what was going on in Australia.
…A wave of the invisible magic wand…
Good News Week was back on the air last night! Paul McDermott and all! Kick ASS!!
I’m very happy about this… and my coffee.
but now, it’s time to get to work.

It’s the end of day two of 2008 and I have kept exactly 0 of my resolutions. But that’s okay - my resolutions are more long term than short term goals.
I did a little writing on project #2 - though I haven’t even reached my daily goal for the first day yet. I wrote enough to mark the page; rid myself of the evil blank page and have a starting point. Tomorrow I will catch up. I will catch up, I will catch up.
I also peddled about 3k on my exercise bike. Though since I had pizza for lunch and Ice cream after dinner it was a sort of one step forward and five steps back sort of deal.
I waisted a whole bunch of time moving my blog from LiveJournal to here and adding a little iframe of it on the index page of my website. It didn’t take long to do but adjusting the theme and plugins and background took up a big chunk of time. So appreciate it damn you!
Apart from that I haven’t done a great deal this year.
Tomorrow I’m going to be a little more strict about my resolutions… and if not - Friday.
That’s all folks.
